Best women’s workout clothing | Benefits of good workout clothing

Including regular exercise into our lifestyle is extremely important for overall health and wellbeing, most of us are well aware of this.

But did you realise that the type of workout gear you wear during your workout can play a significant part in how well we perform during and also how we feel afterwards? The clothing you choose can have a pretty big impact on your overall performance.

For even the fittest and most physical of us it can sometimes be hard to motivate ourselves to get a workout done. It can make it even harder when we are sorting through our wardrobe trying to find the comfiest and nicest outfit to wear and failing.

There are a number of important reasons why having the right workout clothing can have a big impact on improving our performance and how we feel afterwards.

1. Match your workout gear to your specific workout

The type of physical activity you are performing should have a big influence on the workout clothing you wear.

For example, if you are a runner, you are likely to work up a good sweat because this is cardio activity. So enable your body to perform at its best and also feel better during your entire workout you will be best to choose something breathable and light.

Leggings, sports bras and tops that are made from breathable fabric that wicks away sweat from your body is a perfect choice. Also make sure it is not too tight and restricting, even leggings.

For activities such as yoga or Pilates, stretchy, fitted, good quality fabrics that help to wick away sweat are a good choice.

In general, keep in mind that you don’t want any clothing that gets in the way of the activity.

Personal experience – 

I personally know how much better I perform when I am wearing good quality workout clothing as opposed to something I haven’t put much thought into when buying it or choosing it for my workout.

I have a bunch of different leggings and tanks stuffed in my drawers and I cant believe the difference one can have over the other in terms of my performance. Probably something you wouldn’t even think would matter so much, right?

I like to run as well as perform HITT workouts (high intensity training). If I have chosen a pair of leggings that might be thicker, less breathable, heavier and more often than not, cheaper I find myself struggling with a range of things:

Overheating, tiring quicker and then feeling more exhausted afterwards, not to mention sweaty and uncomfortable because of the terribly unbreathable fabric.

If you want to get the most out of your workouts, then if really does pay to take a little more consideration into the type of workout clothing you are choosing when performing various activities.

If you don’t, it will only end up holding you back from being able to perform at your best and feel your best.

2. Different environments

Another important factor to consider when when choosing appropriate workout gear is the environment. The environment can have a huge influence on our performance and also our health.

Warmer/hot weather – If you are exercising inside or outside in hot weather you should choose loose, breathable fabrics that work to wick sweat away from your body. This is very important. You really don’t want to run the risk of overheating and becoming too dehydrated.

Loose, light and breathable fabric are going to help keep your body cool.  You should also opt for lighter colours to reflect the sun’s rays away from your body.

Colder/winter months – It is best to layer your clothing but dress for temperatures a little warmer that the actual temperature. You will end up removing layers as your body heats up and begins to sweat.

It is a very good idea to choose a bottom layer that is made from breathable fabric that works to wick sweat away from your body and an outer layer that is warm but provides good ventilation allowing your body temperature you regulate easily.

3. Good quality workout gear is a rip off…. right?

I can understand the feeling when you go to a fitness store, see the most gorgeous pair of leggings, sports bra, top, jacket etc from across the room and make a bee line over to take a look.

You love it! Even better, you find your size and take it to the changing room, half expecting it not to fit or look terrible, only to find out they look and feel amazing! 

Then…. you peek at the price and your heart sinks because its a little more than you intended on paying and you find yourself trying to justify why you would purchase them when you can get another pair that might LOOK similar on the rack but are half the price.

I know this feeling, I think most of us do! 

It wasn’t until I invested in my first really good quality workout outfit that I looked at it differently. Its exactly that, its a little investment for your body if you like! 

Exercise is extremely important and we all want to get the most out of it when we do it and feel our best. 

I realised just how big of a part working out plays in my own life. I’m working out regularly and I want to feel and perform my best while I do it. After purchasing my first high quality workout gear a few years ago, I realised just how much it can improve performance and overall feeling.

The RIGHT workout gear is typically going to be very durable and last you A LOT longer than something made from less durable fabrics and not specifically designed to allow you to perform at your best.

You don’t need to pay fortunes on designer brand sportswear, this is not my point. I just really do recommend looking for something that is designed for the purpose and is going to help you get the most out of your workouts. Performance is everything.
