Why is fat so important for our health?

Fat is an extremely important macronutrient for the human body.

We need fat for our body and mind to function properly.

When we think of fat, many people think of unhealthy fats (saturated or trans fats). this is found in foods such as butter, margarine, cream and meats.

But not all fat is bad for our hearts, arteries and the cause of weight gain.

Fat is the secondary source of energy our bodies naturally use during exercise when the energy obtained from carbohydrates has been used up.

Our bodies cannot produce certain essential fatty acids which we need for functions such as  absorbing certain vitamins and minerals,  mood and brain health, improving immunity, promoting heart health, among others.

These essential fatty acids are found in healthy fats.

Fat is also very important for hormone regulation, namely testosterone production.

Fat does not make you fat. Excess calories will make you gain weight regardless of what your macronutrient split is.

    Eating fat to lose fat

Yes thats right, eating fat will burn fat! But it must be done correctly.

Here is a quick science lesson behind this.

Our body’s number one source of energy is glucose from carbohydrates. When we don’t burn off all the calories from the carbohydrates we consume, our bodies will store it as fat.

Most of us naturally consume more carbohydrates than we need, especially when we aren’t following a healthy diet.

When you eat a low-fat diet, you are conditioning your body to not burn fat.

Embarking on a high fat diet and heavily decreasing your carb intake your body will turn to fat for its number one source of energy, therefore your body will burn more fat.

The keto diet is easily the best diet for its ability burn fat fast!

The keto diet is considered very safe and has been used for decades to treat conditions such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, Parkinson’s disease and alzheimers.

High fat low carb diets can help burn more abdominal fat

This is one area A LOT of women struggle with when it comes to losing weight.

So this diet could be the answer to your problems here!

Our bodies have two main types of fat. Subcutaneous fat, which finds home just under your skin, and visceral fat, which accumulates in your abdominal area.

Visceral fat settles around your organs and too much of this fat is said to be linked to inflammation and insulin resistance.

This type of fat is considered dangerous and can put someone at serious health risks if too much of this fat accumulates. This is because of where it stores in the body (around internal organs).

Studies show that low carb diets such a the keto diet are very effective in helping to remove this type of fat.
