There are so many detox teas, “magic” detox pills, and various  detox supplements out there now all claiming to work miracles on your body and mind.

Our market is absolutely saturated with these products!

Its little wonder people are becoming more and more confused by it, but at the same time throwing their hard earned money away on these so called miracle products that will help us shed the pounds fast.

But no one ever really dives into the truth about detoxing, in the sense that is it really necessary?

And if so, when and how we should use detoxing correctly so our body can really benefit from it.

Well first let me get one thing straight.

Our body will naturally detox its self… to a degree.

Our body is capable of cleansing itself through the liver, feces, urine, and sweat. But don’t go mistaking this for thinking our bodies are this incredible detoxing machine that will allow you to eat whatever and it will naturally cleanse you of all harmful toxins.

Absolutely not!

This is where you need to know the truth about detoxing.

What a detox is, why it is important and when you will benefit from a detox the most.

What is a detox

A detox is the process of resetting your system by getting rid of all the unwanted toxins that have built up over a period of time.

These unwanted toxins build up through the consumption of processed food and drink, and too many carbohydrates.
 
Detoxing or cleansing your body is achieved by eliminating all processed food drink and most carbohydrates, and replacing it will 100% whole food that is high in nutrients, vitamins and minerals.
 
Now there is little knowledge of exactly what toxins are eliminated through detoxing, but what is known for sure is the incredible differences in how our bodies look and feel after a detox. There is no denying this. 
 
In saying that, it is important to know why we should detox because far too many people think a quick detox will be a miracle cure for there weight issues, and then go straight back to old habits of consuming processed food and drink way too often.

    Why detoxing is important

    Your body can only cleanse itself so much. You need to be looking after yourself consistently to allow your body to function at its best. 

    This is where detoxing is important.

    It’s not always easy to constantly maintain a perfect healthy lifestyle. In fact, most of us never will.

    Our lives are forever changing, evolving, our situations can change unexpectedly, we take holiday’s, we socialize, we have periods of feeling down, depressed… i think you get my point. 

    This can often lead to unhealthy habits creeping in and momentarily giving in to cravings and having a poor diet.

    When we consume too many carbs our bodies start to resist insulin. Of all the foods, carbs raise the blood sugar and insulin the most.
     
    One of the best way to reset your insulin sensitivity is to eliminate almost ALL carbs from your diet for a period of time.
     
    When we have a build up of toxins from processed foods/drinks and too many carbs, important hormones in our bodies fail to work properly in digesting, absorbing and dispersing nutrients from food.
     

    A detox is a perfect way to get back on track or begin your new healthier lifestyle, and this leads me to the final step –  when you will benefit from a detox the most.

    When you will benefit from a detox the most

    Lets say you eat a pretty unhealthy diet full of processed foods, then start a 3-7 day detox, then go straight back to eating unhealthy, processed food again, you’ve absolutely wasted your time., (and possibly money if you paid for the detox!)

    Why put your body through a detox if you don’t care to look after it long term? You’ve really gained nothing from doing this.

    The time you will benefit from a detox the most is when you truly want to change your lifestyle. By this i mean, long term change.

    A detox is the perfect way to start resetting your system and cleanse your body of built up toxins that you don’t need!

    A detox is the first thing you should do when wanting to introduce healthier eating habits and learn how to manage your weight long term.

    You could definitely embark on a healthier lifestyle without a detox first, but it will slow down the process of resetting your system.

    Think of a detox as a kick start to your weight loss, and lifestyle change journey.

    The difference between starting with a detox or no detox is like the difference between a sprinter with starting blocks and spike shoes or a sprinter with steel cap boots and no starting blocks 😉

    What i’m saying is, with the RIGHT detox, you can reach your goals faster.

    A lifestyle change and weight loss journey is not the only reason you can or should detox, but in my opinion it definitely is the time you will benefit the most from detoxing.
